About the project
Every morning in Nabweru, Uganda, young people take their seats behind rows of sewing machines some manual, some newly electric and begin turning fabric into something bigger than clothing: a future.
For many of these young men and women, this workshop is the first place anyone has ever told them their hands could build a livelihood. Uganda’s youth unemployment crisis leaves millions of capable young people with no clear path forward. No job. No capital. No training. Just potential, waiting for a chance.
The Nabweru Community Initiative for Youth Empowerment (NCIYE) exists to change that. Through our Nabweru Vocational Initiative, we train youth and women in tailoring, fashion design, and other trade skills giving them not just a certificate, but a real, marketable craft they can use to earn immediately and build a business over time.
Right now, our trainees share workspace between a handful of manual machines and a small number of newer electric ones. Every additional machine means another young person who doesn’t have to wait their turn to practice, another graduate who leaves fully trained and ready to work, another family lifted by a daughter or son who found their own way forward.
This is what your gift makes possible: not charity, but capability. Not a handout, but a needle, thread, and machine placed in the hands of someone ready to sew their own future.
When you support the Nabweru Vocational Initiative, you’re not just funding a workshop you’re funding self-reliance. You’re funding the belief, already alive in every young person pictured here, that they can build something of their own. And when they do, that belief spreads: to siblings, to neighbors, to the next generation of Nabweru’s youth who will look at what’s possible and believe it too.
Join us in equipping Uganda’s youth one machine, one skill, one future at a time
